I think it is a matter of relative perspective. Our current situation is extremely odd. Life on any planet,much less like ours. Then civilization making long comfortable life likely is rare in human history. So you have a lottery of one in a trillion and then one in a million and lastly if you are born in the West you are lucky again. I mean of course gratitude could help for people who go through a rough time. Maybe it would keep you from getting there.
