Housing in Sydney Built on Flood Plain is a Big Mistake

https://asia.nikkei.com/Economy/Natural-disasters/Australia-floods-raise-alarm-on-Sydney-s-great-housing-gamble

Every 5 years or so Australia has another 2 million people(wikipedia). If 20% of those are in Sydney and it is bordered by sea, flood plains and national parks then something has to give. Perhaps they should build densely packed townhouses or only condominium apartment complexes like in Europe or UK and stop building one family separated houses. Here in Hamburg lots of old dwellings are being torn down for one family and apartment blocks raised to serve a growing population. As Sydney has triple our population they should think similarly. Perhaps other areas in Australia could use growth better as housing costs are so high in bigger cities. It reminds me of LA endless expansion into hills where fires are a danger and desert with no water and the endless drive to work or Houston sinking and hurricane threats or similar all around Florida.
