If China, Bangladesh, etc. have cheap labor without worker's rights or environmental protections then free trade with them is just allowing dickensian slave labor and massive dirty coal burning so we can live in comfort. This is excessively hypocritical. Tariffs could be applied politically depending on worker's rights and CO2 per product. Companies like Walmart that become super rich in this way, wiping out the US manufacture, livelihoods should go bankrupt. We need high quality clothing, furniture, toys, electronics made cleanly, humanely to last a long time, not throwaway Junk for the season at the cost of our sovereignty. If we outsource manufacturing then we lose basic capabilities. Then we lose the future capabilities as manufacturing gets more complex. We become servants of the exporters. They use the funds to buy us up, educate themselves, upgrade and colonize us. Westerners become stuck at a lower level of development. Sanctions against Russia forced them into autarchy. They produce endless consumer goods previously imported and export grains. They are now like the old USA. The US can take Russia as an example to become independent. In Western Europe much of Made in Germany is just cheap foreign parts assembled into cars at the final stage. The same applies with environmental protection, worker's rights and human rights here. All hypocrisy. If you cannot enslave locals to work for pennies in dirty conditions the send the work abroad and sell the final product at home cheap to the people now doing cheap service jobs or working in the gig economy hand to mouth.
I heard the theory that Obama and Hillary talked with each other and the white house staff to make decisions. I recall her saying she called there daily. Biden was not there except marginally. The staff should be put under oath and the telephone logs and meeting logs examined. The USA elected one person but got another as with Wilson's wife after his stroke.
