Nodes in Synastry Charts

Usually one sees venus, mars, sun, moon analyzed but nodes are important due to their spiritual and karmic significance.

The North Node in Synastry

North Node Synastry

When your Sun is conjunct your partner’s North Node, a strong bond exists between the two of you. This aspect indicates a relationship that is constantly moving forward. This aspect indicates the two of you are “new” to each other in this lifetime. If there are no South Node Aspects between the two of you and only North Node connection, it implies that the two of you have no past karma to work out. Indeed, the two of you have a “clean slate” upon which to build your relationship.

The Sun person encapsulates the qualities the North Node person requires in order to fulfill their life’s purpose. Thus, developing each other’s strengths and talents is the hallmark of this relationship. The couple can help one another in furthering their career and social ambitions. The willingness to invest in the relationship is present, due to the fact that they feel they are “going somewhere” with each other.

Depending on where the North Node person “is” in his or her life will dictate how this relationship will unfold. The relationship also strongly depends on whether the Nodal person relates well to their North Node. Regardless, the Nodal person is likely to feel somewhat uneasy in the presence of the Sun person, mostly because the Sun person brings the Node person out of their comfort zone. Is the Nodal person ready to grow, or is he not?

Nevertheless, the North Node is undoubtedly strongly drawn towards the Sun person, and vice-versa. Indeed, the North Node person feels a fated “pull” towards the Sun person. The North Node certainly feels there is a future with the Sun person and is attracted to the growth the relationship represents.

When your Moon is conjunct your partner’s North Node, or vice-versa, an intense emotional attraction is indicated. This connection is distinctly emotional and penetrating. It creates a strong emotional attachment which makes it possible to overcome the things that ruin other relationships.

The two of you may feel as though the relationship was “meant to be.” The Moon person offers support, care, and nurturing to the North Node person. The Moon person strives to provide safety and security to the North Node person, as well. The North Node person is glad to receive the Moon person’s support and love.

The cycle of giving and receiving support and love will be a main theme in your relationship. However, the Moon person is likely to give a disproportionate amount of support to the North Node person, in comparison to how much the Moon person receives in return. This is because the North Node person is learning how to express these qualities, and may feel they are exploring new ground in doing so.

When your Mercury conjuncts your partner’s North Node, or vice-versa, a strong intellectual connection is indicated. Communication between the two of you is likely to be excellent (notwithstanding hard aspects to either person’s Mercury). The two of you enjoy communicating and exchanging ideas. The North Node person is highly receptive to the Mercury person’s ideas, and admires their intellect. The Mercury person opens up the North Node person’s mind to different ways of thinking. Indeed, it is the Mercury person’s role in this relationship to guide the Node person to their future, in regards to ideas and communication.

On the downside, the Mercury person communicates in a way that may make the North Node person feel slightly uneasy or uncomfortable. As such, the North Node person may feel exhausted at the amount of mental activity that goes on between the couple, as the North Node person has to put in a considerable amount of effort in order to keep up with the Mercury person.

When your Venus is conjunct your partner’s North Node, or vice-versa, an instant attraction is indicated. The desire to impress or inspire one another is strong, due to the fact that the couple feels they are “going somewhere” together.

Many astrologers, like Celeste Teal, insist that when this aspect is present in synastry, the individuals are setting the stage for a future meeting, and that the likelihood of a real relationship forming in this lifetime is unlikely. In my personal experience, I’ve found this to be true. Perhaps barriers to love exist between the two of them, which deny the formation of a love relationship. Perhaps the Node person doesn’t feel “ready” to embrace the qualities the Venus person represents because it makes them feel out of their comfort zone. However, if there are other strong aspects (especially to either person’s Nodes), the likelihood of forming a lasting relationship in this lifetime is increased.

Regardless, the couple enjoys spending time with one another. The North Node person is strongly attracted to the Venus person’s beauty, grace, and charm. The two of you easily cooperate with one another, and a feeling of comfort and ease was probably instant.

I have had this connection in Synastry, wherein my North Node was conjunct his Venus. The attraction certainly was immediate, but very short-lived, at least on my part! We had a 2-month fling, which ended with me cutting him out of my life very abruptly. I suddenly lost all attraction to him, which was followed by a prompt good-bye. He e-mailed me for about 2 months after the sudden separation, expressing his disappointment and sorrow. At the time, I was still in love with a man with whom I had a Venus-South Node connection, so perhaps I was too comfortable with my South Node guy to even consider jumping out of my comfort zone.

When your Mars is conjunct your partner’s North Node, or vice-versa, a stimulating, action-oriented connection is indicated. The Mars person motivates the North Node person and encourages the North Node person to take action. The North Node person may become frustrated with the Mars person, especially if the North Node person is not ready to follow Mars’ direction. In addition, the Node person may find the Mars person overly pushy or aggressive, which may turn the Node person off. Regardless, this connection promises a dramatic and fiery union. The Node person is strongly attracted to the Node person’s drive and ambition. If other synastry aspects agree, this aspect also indicates a strong amount of physical desire and passion.

On the downside, conflict, and even violent situations, may plague your relationship due to the combative and aggressive nature of Mars. Though a physical attraction is indicated by this aspect, the sexual style of the Mars person may make the Node person feel uncomfortable. Indeed, since North Node aspects represent the “future,” perhaps the sexual exchange between the couple is too “new,” and will thus require a lot of work to ensure mutual satisfaction.

When your Jupiter is conjunct your partners’ North Node, or vice-versa, an relationship based on mutual generosity and good-will is indicated. The couple is likely to share common philosophical and religious beliefs, which can go a long way in maintaining a long-term relationship. Jupiter may provide the Node person with material wealth, good luck, support, and spiritual guidance. Indeed, this is an ideal aspect in the charts of guru-discliple or teacher-student relationships.

When your Saturn is conjunct your partner’s North Node, you bring restriction, discipline, and structure into your partner’s life. Indeed, this is a very serious union! On the good side, the Saturn person can help the North Node person achieve success and teach them how to be responsible. Indeed, Saturn brings out North Node’s mature side.

On the downside, maintaining this relationship can be difficult, due to its heavy and serious nature. The Node person may feel the relationship is burdensome, while the Saturn person may feel the Node person is irresponsible and childish. In addition, external forces may prevent the two of you from fully forming a romantic bond in this lifetime.

At the same time, if other synastry aspects support the formation of a romantic relationship, the depth of responsibility and commitment to one another can bind you together for a long time. The likelihood of the two of you staying together also depends on how the North Node person responds to Saturnian energy. If the North Node person’s chart is “Saturn-friendly” (i.e. if there are several aspects to Saturn, or if there are planets in Capricorn), the Node person may find it easier to go the di

Sun conjunct South Node (North Node opposite Sun):

The relationship often starts off with magnetic attraction, distinct familiarities and a sense of ‘’meant to be’’. At least in the beginning, it invokes friendly feelings more so than romantic. It is as if when you two agree, you can finish off each other’s sentences. But when you don’t, drama never seems to stop.

The evolution of this karmic bond greatly depends on the level of maturity and self awareness of both partners. Even though they both feel the same love on a deeper level, their egoic responses, values or needs to it may be different.

There may also be significant external obstacles such as long distance, cultural and age differences, etc. Sun person may be hesitant to create a more intimate bond at first, whereas South Node person may feel unsatisfied in the relationship eventually.

Moon conjunct South Node (North Node opposite Moon):

The sense of familiarity and attraction is felt intuitively. Even in the early stages of the connection, there is a deep, unexplainable desire to be a safe emotional haven for each other. Moon person feels this very intensely, and as they bond deeper and deeper, South Node’s karmic patterns start to emerge into the present relationship.

Venus conjunct South Node is a karmic rope that was sewed with the desire to be reunited once again. After a period of time, Moon person may feel drained by South Node’s inner fears, insecurities and needs. Same issues seem to repeat itself over and over again until South Node makes a conscious effort to break these cycles.

Despite many obstacles and challenges, once formed, it is a very difficult bond to break. Even if the relationship doesn’t work out, both partners eventually learn very important lessons on their emotional growth.

Venus conjunct South Node (North Node opposite Venus):

This aspect is characterized by a powerful urge to be close to each other. In the past life, it is very likely that this was a romantic relationship that prematurely ended due to external circumstances- just like in the story of Romeo and Juliet.

Venus conjunct South Node is a karmic rope that was sewed with the desire to be reunited once again. It is as if when you come together, you feel comforted and whole. Unrealistic idealization is often mutual, but especially for South Node person, who could be seeing Venus as this ‘’perfect’’ partner that came to rescue them. And this is exactly where the problems start.

As the passion settles and same past circumstances start straining the relationship, they both tend to sweep things under the rug or just ‘’give up’’ when things get too hard. Venus person’s issues on self worth could be triggered, or South Node may get too lazy in the relationship.

However much they just want to stop the time and live in a pink bubble, tracks of evolution never stop. Eventually, one partner may want to escape this pink bubble if they had outgrown the other. The lesson here is to encourage each other’s evolution and take a more realistic approach towards love.

Mars conjunct South Node (North Node opposite Mars):

Every interaction is bursting with passion and dynamic energy. As usual, tighter the orb, the more intense. If it is a romantic relationship, sex has an addictive quality. If it is a partnership, competitiveness is the driving force.

This synastry aspect indicates that in the past life, there was an unfinished ‘’battle’’ between the two partners. Now, Mars person feels this as a very strong desire to ‘’take action’’ towards the South Node. SN person feels a surge of energy in the presence of Mars: The more Mars pursues and invests their attention, the more they get addicted.

Despite the irresistible attraction, Node person may eventually outgrow the connection, or feel that the constant push and pull dynamic is too draining.

Saturn conjunct South Node (North Node opposite Saturn):

This connection feels like an unavoidable karmic pull, so much so that it is like a fly trapped into sticky resin. It is often very heavy, cold and limiting, especially for the South Node person, yet they can’t seem to move out of it, and this can go on for a very long time.

There may be significant obstacles as well, such as an age gap, traditional differences, physical and emotional distance, etc. On the other hand, there may be a lot of coincidences or ‘’synchronicities’’ that are hard to ignore.

The sense of commitment is very strong in both partners, however, due to these difficult life lessons and obstacles constantly thrown into the relationship, it may feel like finding the right person in the wrong time. Saturn person’s lesson here is to work on their fears and need for control. If Saturn turns into an immovable object or a domineering force, South Node feels invalidated, hurt, or even abused. South Node may be avoiding necessary changes in order to grow out of their comfort zone.

After a while, they may grow a dependency for each other even though the relationship is dysfunctional. South Node-Saturn conjunction is a lesson on learning to work together as a team through hardships, respecting each other’s independence in every step.

Pluto conjunct South Node (North Node opposite Pluto):

This is a mutually passionate, obsessive, transforming kind of aspect. Knowingly or not, Pluto person usually becomes the lead and stirs South Node’s subconscious patterns and traumas. Many uncomfortable, undealt past experiences come to the surface through this relationship as a result of a past life power struggle.

Just like Saturn conjunct South Node, sometimes this aspect may indicate a codependency or abusive tendencies. South Node being the comfort zone, it doesn’t respond very well to change- and this is exactly the reason why Pluto comes into their life.

South Node conjunct Pluto is a lesson on control: what to let go and where to move on, even at times it is the hardest thing to do.
