long article here for Sunday reading. 21st century is one of contraction, mirror opposite of 20th. Add to demographic decline the problems with energy transition, massive automation and environmental problems and the future poulation will see 20th century futurism as naive, dangerous idealism. A trashed planet with few resources, populated by geriatrics being cared for by the few young people, not daring due to increasing costs and hurdles to start families is a very normal dystopia, not the exciting hollywood type.
