I am fairly interested in chart aspects, meaning the angles between planets in the horoscope, as I personally have so many, really no unaspected planets and most in multiple aspect placements. The above is a list of books on the subject recommended by cafe astrology. I have a German language book I picked up at a bookstore, astrologische aspektlehre by Michael Roscher. Below is my horoscope done for free at astrodienst. Also available in English. Basically when one learns astrology at first, it is all about planets in signs, mars in virgo, for example, or in houses, moon in 5th, but later maybe you have lots like me- conjunctions, squares, opposition (both red)and trines and sextiles(blues) even quintiles(yellow), an inconjunct(green) and a septile not shown in this program(mercury to moon/jupiter). So in every horoscope all the planets have a sign and house interpretation. So that makes 9 planets with two interpretations each, 11 if you include moon nodes and here chiron is shown conjunct my sun a well, a so-called minor planet or asteroid. So 18 to 22 paragraphs saying what mars, venus, etc. mean in virgo, pisces, 5th, 6th house, etc. But aspects can be much different. Some people have very few, disorganized. Others have complicated patterns. https://cafeastrology.com/articles/aspectpatterns.html
The above link describe the main patterns. Basic personality structure can be determined by this. I have a rectangle which is good for development but hard to sleep on. If you have a grand trine OTOH it is more relaxing. A grand square is for the manic mover. Not everyone has such big patterns. Sometimes planets are bunched in a corner or one sign or house has 5 or they are all in one quadrant or just splayed everywhere randomly. This is all significant to understanding personality. Development is also affected by transits. These can be fast, like sun or moon or slow like Saturn or Neptune. Good books and online sources can also be researched to discover what this means in your life. Learning about your personal horoscope is an excellent way of understanding why you react the way you do all the time and right now(transits). After you understand a bit about yourself then you can look at other people's horoscopes and see how they tick and why you are happy or not with them by making a synastry hooscope. Mostly people are interested in their potential love relationships but just as interesting and critical to understanding our development are synastry horoscopes with our parents, siblings and friends and between parents, etc to understand dynamics of successful or bad marriages, friendships, sibling rivalries. If one is further interested there is jyotish(india) and Chinese astrology(year of the dragon). Really it never ends but having good grasp of this is very good nowadays in social contexts. Whereas in the first half of last century quoting, Freud, Jung and co. was a must, today esoteric knowledge is ever more essential to be in the in crowd, to get heard so to speak and taken seriously.
